046
COUNCIL MEETING SEPTEMBER 28, 1987
situation in that soon landfills will not be able to accept any
unprocessed materials.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Schumacher told the Council that the developer of Rice Lakes
Estates has called him to let him know of a new marketing plan for
that subdivision. They plan to give away a$150,000 home. This
give -away will be well promoted. It will be similar to the one given
away about two years ago in Savage. The developer has requested that
the City waive the building permit for the home. It is his feeling
that this promotion will bring an average of 25,000 people a week into
Lino Lakes and in exchange for the promotion of Lino Lakes a waiver of
a permit fee is being requested.
Mr. Hawkins explained that the Council should determine if this action
would be in the public interest. The Council could argue that it is
in the City's interest to sell lots.
Mr. Bisel said this could be a way of promoting a better image for
Lino Lakes. Mr. Reinert said he was not in favor of underwriting a
private promotion.
No action was taken on the request.
Air Traffic Noise - Mr. Schumacher explained that he had contacted
Metro regarding the increase in air traffic in this area. It was
explained that air traffic is being "clumped" in an effort to get
planes to come in and and take off at one time. More air space was
needed and that is why this area is seeing and hearing more air
traffic.
NEW BUSINESS
Appointment of Paula Romocky as Deputy Clerk - Mrs. Anderson requested
the Council to appoint Mrs. Romocky as her Deputy Clerk for the
purpose of signing City checks. There could be a problem in the
absence of the City Clerk if a check were needed. Checks require two
signatures and there is no one presently who can sign in her absence.
Mr. Reinert moved to appoint Mrs. Romocky as Deputy Clerk. Mr.
Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Senator Dahl's Letter - Mayor Benson noted that a letter had been
received from Senator Dahl regarding the Pheasant Ridge facility. Mr.
Bisel said he was disappointed in the context of the letter.
PAGE 8
