COUNCIL MINUTES APRIL 9, 1990
Council adopt the resolution as a show of support for the
project.
Council Member Bohjanen noted that the resolution is asking
that Anoka County provide $300,000.00 in funding for
construction. He asked if this was the total cost. Mr. Volk
said no, the cost is close to $1,000,000.00. Council Member
Bohjanen asked if the Ice Arena would be in direct
competition with the ice arena recently constructed in
Blaine? Mr. Volk said he did not think so, the area in
Blaine is designed for Olympic uses. Council Member Reinert
asked Mr. Volk where the funding for the balance of the
construction is coming from? Mr. Volk said that there will
be funding raising programs allowing all governments,
businesses and private residents the opportunity to
contribute.
Council Member Reinert asked if there has been any agreement
as to where this arena should be constructed. Mr. Volk said
this appears to be a larger issue than the fund raising. It
appears that the number one site is at Centennial Schools.
Council Member Neal asked who will be operating the facility?
Mr. Volk said he did not know but hoped that the coordinator
of the joint recreations association will be responsible.
Council Member Neal asked if this is the same ice arena that
he had advised the Council of two (2) or three (3) years ago.
It is the same arena and Council Member Neal said at that
time the County said they would provide the funding if the
land was donated. Mr. Schumacher explained that he had
contacted Margaret Langfeld, County Commissioner on this
matter and was told that it was past practice that the County
would support this type of construction.
Council Member Neal moved to adopt Resolution No. 17 - 90.
Council Member Kuether seconded the motion. On a roll call
vote, motion carried unanimously.
Resolution No. 17 - 90 can be found at the end of these
minutes.
CONSIDERATION OF AN EMPLOYEE COMPUTER PROGRAM — RANDY
SCHUMACHER
Mr. Schumacher explained that he has drafted a program that
would allow City employees to acquire City compatible
computer equipment financed by the City. The purpose of the
program would be to learn and gain experience by working with
the computer away from the office. He noted other benefits.
Mr. Schumacher noted that a number of other cities use this
program but limit the program to full time employees. In
addition, the cost of the equipment is limited to $3,500.00
and the equipment must met specific standards and be
compatible with City equipment.
