The architect's estimate was
$796,000 and the low bid was $468,375. All references on the low
bidder have checked out positive. The only concern is that the
City does not have title to the property where the building will
be located. Mr. Schumacher suggested that the motion for
approval be contingent upon the right to access the property.
Council Member Neal said that he is interested in having local
contractors subcontract work on the new building. However, he
also expressed concern that the subcontractors be paid after
their work is completed. Mr. Hawkins explained that the City
contracts with the main contractor. He must post a performance
bond which will guarantee payment to subcontractors. If there
are subcontractors on other City projects that have not been
paid, they should send written notice to the City so that legal
action can be taken against the main contractor.
Council Member Reinert moved to approve Resolution No. 50 - 91
awarding the bid to Faulkner Construction, Inc. for $678,375 with
the contingency for the right to access the building site.
Council Member Bohjanen seconded the motion.
VOTING ON THE MOTION:
Bisel
Neal
Bohjanen
Reinert
Kuether ❑
Absent: Kuether
Motion carried.
Resolution No. 50 - 91 can be found at the end of these minutes.
OLD BUSINESS
Work Session Council Minutes, May 2, 1991 - Council Member
Reinert moved to approve these minutes as presented.
