1
1
1
February 12, 1973
men that the cars would not be driven out of the Village at night. Mr. Myhre
was asked to work out a schedule for the Council to consider. Mr. Back l i n'_s ,.
concern was dust where another car could fit in the garage.
Mr. Zelinka said the present application for policeman forms are inadequate and he
would suggest that we adopt a new form. Mr. Myhre is working on one now for Council
consideration. Mr. Myhre asked Mr. Locher if the wage freexe effected them, Mr.
Locher said he would check on it.
Mr. Gotwald reported on the installation of the loading spout for the lift station.
Mr. Gotwald recommended that we get this installed as soon as possible since each
day's delay costs us money. Also, that a meeting with the Metro Sewer Board should
be set up for sometime this week in order to present these plans and inform them
of the cost.
Mr. Marier asked what use w;s this set up if and when the interceptor comes through?
Mr. Gotwald said, None, except for salvage.
Mr. Zelinka had checked with other electrical contractors and only Batzli would
consider doing the job. Mr. Marier asked what fund would be charged with this
cost? Mr. Locher said it should be charged to the construction fund. Mr. Marier
said that for over a year this system had been pumped without this set-up. How
was it done before in order to avoid this cost? Mr. Gotwald said that Mr. Carlson
has a pump on his truck but that he is pumping from a shallow manhole and if we
are to pump from the wet well then we would have to get a deep well pump or else
put a pump on the truck. Either way could be worked out so as to do the job. A
submersiable pump, big enough to do the job would cost around $2500.00. This would
leave us without a stand by in case the pump went out. If the lift station is
used there are two pumps there and it is better to use these pumps rather than have
them standing idle for years. There is the danger of corrosion from one -use. Mr.
Gotwald said, either way, we have some figures to present to the Metro Sewer Board.
Mr. Zelinka asked if we would still need the stand pipe and was told that some portion
of the stand pipe would still be necessary. Mr. Marier moved to table this until
we get adequate figures on pumping or an alternate method of doing the job. Mr.
Cardinal seconded the motion asking how soon could we get this information? Mr.
Gotwald said he could probably get the cost figures for them in one day. Vote was
called for on the motion and the motion carried. Mr. Zelinka asked if we could
afford to wait until the next meeting to make a decision on this. Mr. Marier said
there is a meeting at his house on Saturday at noon. If the information is available
by then, then the decision could be made. Mr. Gotwald will get the figures to the
Clerk, the Council will then decide which way to go on the pumping.
Mr. Glenn Rehbein, from the audience, said he thought the Council was making a mis-
take by not going ahead with the plans as presented. If we go the other route, there
is always the danger of the pump breaking down and if the sewage backs up in those
homes, then the Village is really in trouble.
Mr. Gotwald reported that the road bids were not published as yet. He had some
questions for the Council before he wrote them up. There is 16 miles of unpaved
streets in our Village and he wondered if we had enough in our budget to cover the
cost of surfacing that many miles. He had done a cost analysis on the different
types of surface that could be used for this plan. Ommitting Pine St. and 24th St.
there would be 132 miles to surface =Plant mix - cost $147,000.00, Road mix - $122,000.00
Sand and Gravel mix - $85,000.00; Seal Coat - $42,000.00; and a combination of Road
mix for the heavily traveled street and double seal for the lesser used streets
$65,000.00.
