1
1
1
It was decided that the new Deputy Clerk would handle the P&Z right away.
Mrs. Bohjanen asked what the qualifications were for these jobs; she thought that
applicants should be tested at the Minnesota Employment Office. After discussion,
it was decided that the Personnel Commission would be asked about this. Mr. Bohjanen
noted again that on a part time basis, the Clerk should be expected to take work
home. Mr. L'Allier noted that with the files, etc. at the Hall there wasn't much
that could be done at home. Mr. Rosengren felt that when we got into the new
building things would straighten out. If we have the building by June, we can
think about it at that time. Clerk's wages set at $300 /month; Deputy Clerk at
$2.60 per hour, additional clerical held at $2.35 per hour.
Mr. Bohjanen stated that he didn't buy the idea of the Clerk'Treasurer being the
most important employee in the Village; he felt that the Road Foreman is since he
has much responsibility. He stated that he never saw a Clerk= Treasurer get more
than a Road Foreman. He felt that the Road Foreman should get in the neighborhood
of $3.25 -$3.50 per hour; he has extra duties, too; works long hours and is some-
times up all night.
Mr. Jaworski mentioned that he had talked to Mr. Backlin about taking over the job
of Parks Supervisor, an operations foreman. Mr. Backlin indicated he thought he
should get $3.75 per hour for both jobs. Mr. Bohjanen stated that you never give
a person what he asks for. Mr. Rosengren stated that Mr. Backlin was an excellent
Foreman; he always follows up on his work. Upon discussion the Road Foreman's
(and park supervisor's) salary was set at $3.50 per hour. Road laborers and drivers
will receive $2.70 per hour.
The mechanic's salary, after discussion, was set at $4.00 per hour. The Weed
Inspector's Salary was set at $2.70 per hour. The maintenance man will receive
$2.70 per hour.
There was discussion on the wages to be paid for Parks caretakers and laborers.
Mr. Jaworski noted that he hadn't allowed that much in the budget. However the
salary for the laborers was kept consistent with the other laborers since many
overlap and was set at $2.70 per hour.
The salary for the caretaker of Sunrise Park was set at $50.00 per month; the salary
of the caretaker at Lino Park was kept at $25.00 per month.
The Assessor's salary had already been set.
There was considerable discussion on wages for the police and constables. It was
decided to wait and decide the police salaries after we decided on the method of
policing for the year.
The Fire Marshall's salary was raised to $180.00 per year. It was decided to let
ride on the Civil Defense Director's expenses at $25.00 per month. He could turn
in any additional expenses.
After discussion on several subjects, it was decided that election judges would re-
ceive the same wage as additional clerical help at $2.35 per hour.
The discussion turned to the amount of expenses for Council members. Mr. Bohjanen
stated that he thought that the voters should decide whether the Council raise the
amount of expenses rather than they do it themselves. Ken Emerton asked what the
maximum amount of money a civil servant could receive from a political office.
