There were congratulations and
a round of applause for those sworn in.
The minutes of the special meeting held on December 15, 1969 and the minutes of the
regular December 22nd meeting were corrected and the motions seconded.
Mr. Al Ross was asked to give a rundown on the mass transit situation as it might affect
the union. Mr. Ross mentioned that it appeared that condemnation procedures were to
be undertaken by the Metropolitan Transit Commission against the Twin City Bus Lines.
Mr. Ross felt that the mass transit system was a major step and that since we are
involved, whether we like it or not, we have to live with it should try to derive
some befief its from it. We should be active and aggressive since we too should have
transportation like the urban area. We should try to sell to the public the idea
of regularly scheduled service to the downtown areas. Mr. Ross stated that the
ultimate in freeway construction can't keep up with progress; that mass transit
would lessen the costs of freeway construction and reduce air pollution.
