Motion carried. <br />Mr. Locher stated that he had checked the title on the Blomquist Addition plat <br />and found the title clear. Mr. Gotwald stated that he had again checked with <br />the County Surveyor on the matter of the 50; roadway requirement and that the <br />surveyor would accept the plat as it is with the 35' easement. <br />Mr. Locher reported that the League had sent a letter stating that under Minnesota <br />Statute 1955, Chapter 765, voluntary workers including Civil Defense members are <br />considered employees and are therefore eligible for workmen's compensation when <br />ordered to duty by a political subdivision. Mr. Locher will talk to the insur- <br />ance agent about coverage for the Civil Defense. <br />The following names for election judges were suggested by the County GOP: Mrs. <br />William Houle, Mrs. Richard Crandall, Mrs. Secretan, Mrs. L. J. LeTendre, Mrs. <br />R. A. Stanley, Mrs. James Livingston, Mrs. Heckenliable; the following by the <br />County DFL: Mrs. Arthur Haskins, Mrs. Kay Olson, Mrs. Agaes LaMotte, Mrs. Erma <br />Grygellko, Mrs. Signe Miller, Mrs. Ruth Rector. The Council members suggested <br />the following names: Mrs. Richard Lichtscheidl, Mrs. Michael Peloquin, Mss.. <br />Charles Gotwaldt, Mrs. Lowell Nygren, Mrs. Robert Sorg, Mrs. George Tauer, Mr. <br />Kenneth Youker and Mrs. Earl Holley. <br />Mr. Cardinal moved to accept the foregoing list of names for election judges for <br />the primary and general elections this fall. Seconded by Mr. Bohjanen. Carried. <br />Mr. L'Allier mentioned that the Governor would soon announce someone to fill the <br />vacancy on the Metro Transit Commission and suggested that we adopt a resolution <br />supporting Bruce Nawrocki of Columbia Heights for that position. Mr. L'Allier <br />then moved that the council adopt a resolution favoring Bruce Nawrocki for the <br />Metro Transit Commission and that the Mayor and Clerk work on drafting this <br />resolution to send to the Governor. Seconded by Mr. Bohjanen. Carried. <br />The Clerk read a letter from the League concerning the Metro Council Sewer Plan <br />and planning meetings for discussion by interested officials. Mr. Bohjanen <br />moved that we get in touch with the League on this suggesting evening meetings <br />if possible. Seconded by Mr. Jawroski. Carried. <br />Mr. Dupre complained about a single garage which had been moved in on commercial <br />property by Mr. Flanagan without securing a moving permit. Mr. Bohjanen moved <br />that we 0%/%yi/Melf40/0.),V00/7406WioxiAlasiaajA407festWayiii accept the <br />garage upon inspection providing that the owner pays the $25.00 moving fee and <br />the $2.50 garage permit. Seconded by Mr. Jaworski. Carried. <br />Mr. Dupre mentioned that the house on the corner of Elm Street and Highway 8 will <br />be taken down, but the owner has been ill. <br />Mr. Schwankl in the audience asked whether two or more garages could be located <br />on the same piece of property in a commercial location. The attorney said that <br />there was no maximum limit on this. Mr. Schwankl then complained that the building <br />hung over his fence, that the two garages were so close on the Flanagan property <br />that the overhang on one had been trimmed and that there was no parking area left. <br />The concensus of the Council was that the Fire Marshall should check for a pos- <br />sible fire hazard and that the Council should look at the situation before the <br />next meeting. <br />Mr. Locher mentioned that the County Auditor would call a meeting of municipal <br />clerks before September 3 to instruct them on election proceedings. Mr. Rosengren <br />moved to authorize the Clerk- Treasurer to attend this meeting. Seconded by <br />Ir. Jaworski. Carried. <br />
