116 <br />Mr. L'Allier mentioned that, on the advice of the Constables, at the next <br />meeting,the purchase of a new squad car should be discussed. <br />Mr. Cardinal moved that the amount of $5000 should be transferred from Parks <br />and Playgrounds Fund into the Roads and Bridges Fund prior to the end of 1968. <br />Seconded by Mr. Jaworski. <br />The police report for December was as follows: the car was in service for <br />1206 miles, four accidents, 1 break -in, 5 domestic complaints, 1 medical <br />assist, 4 stolen property, 5 motorists in trouble, 1 prowler, 4 notices to <br />clean up junk, 4 escapees from the Youth Center taking 2 hours, and several <br />complaints on snowmobiles. <br />It was mentioned that there had been complaints to the effect that a 30 mph <br />speed limit should be set on Main Street between the Aragon Ballroom and <br />Rondeau Lake Road. However, a letter has already been sent to the Commissioners <br />to have +a:limit set on Main Street. <br />Mr. Cardinal moved that the payment of $5.00 each and $0.40 /month each be <br />authorized for the installation and use of outside telephone bells for the <br />Constables. Seconded by Mr. Rosengren. Carried. <br />After much discussion Mr. L'Allier moved, on Mr. Locher's advice, to allow <br />the deputizing of members of the Civil Defense by Mr. West, on a limited basis <br />when help is needed by the police provided that certain hours are specified, and <br />that the carrying of firearms by these deputies also be allowed if necessary, <br />but not preferred. The Civil Defense uniforms may be worn. Seconded by Mr. <br />Cardinal. Carried. <br />Mr. Scherer queried why, since the Council members are automatically police <br />officers, they don't wear badges and carry identification as police. , <br />Mention was made of the possibility of licensing vending machines, gas pumps, <br />etc., Also, the reprinting of the new Information Guide, possibly putting a <br />large notice regarding the voter registration on the front of it. <br />Mr. Bohjanen moved that the request of Mr. Ken Rehbein for a variance on Fourth <br />Avenue be turned over to the Planning Board. Seconded by Mr. Jaworski. Carried. <br />Mr. Rosengren moved to appoint the Circulating Pines as the legal paper in 1969. <br />Seconded by Mr. Cardinal. Vote: No - -Mr. Jaworski, Mr. Bohjanen and Mr. L'Allier. <br />Failed. <br />Mr. L'Allier then moved that the meeting be continued to 7:45 p.m. on January <br />27 to discuss the matter of the legal newspaper. Seconded by Mr. Bohjanen. <br />Carried. <br />Mr. Al Ross mentioned that a Mr. Dick Johnson had taken over the Rice- Edgerton <br />Bus Line which comes up to County Road J on Highway 49, and thought he should <br />be given some encouragement. The Clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Johnson <br />and invite him to a council meeting to discuss more bus service in the Village. <br />Mr. Bohjanen moved to pay the bills as audited. Seconded by Mr. Rosengren. <br />Carried. <br />Mr. Jaworski moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:10 p.m. (to be continued later). <br />Seconded by Mr. Bohjanen. Carried. <br />
