A petition has also
been submitted by the residents in the Hokah Drive area. The
residents have cited safety reasons as the primary issue.
The pathway was constructed by the Centennial School District and
is on Anoka County right -of -way. Any improvement should be
addressed by Anoka County.
The residents have stated that they have talked to the school
district officials and were told to talk to the City. Mr.
Schumacher recommended that the matter be handled by Anoka
County.
Police Chief Dean Campbell told the City Council that he has been
addressing safety concerns in the area since the start of the
school year. There was concern that the tunnel was still under
construction when school started. Officers from the Lino Lakes
Police Department will be in the Rice Lake Elementary school on
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week talking about safety
to and from school. Chief Campbell said he felt things were
going very well in this area.
There was discussion regarding the new voting precinct at the
school and Chief Campbell was asked about the ticketing policy
for drivers using the neighborhood streets. Chief Campbell said
that primarily, only warning tickets have been issued. Weather
permitting, Birch Street will be open on Friday, September 18,
1992.
Council Member Kuether asked that Mr. Schumacher give the City
Council an update on this matter at the next Council meeting.
Council Member Kuether moved to send the petition requesting
g
barriers to Anoka County and have staff track the matter at Anoka
County.
