Mr. Schumacher explained that within 30
days the Common Ground subcommittee will have prepared a report
on this matter for each of the City Council's to consider. If
the Common Grounds report is not favorable, Lino Lakes will
proceed to select a professional chief of police.
Has there every been discussions regarding merging all four (4)
cities (Circle Pines, Lexington, Centerville, Lino Lakes)? Mr.
Schumacher referred to the recent action regarding the petition
to merge the cities of Lino Lakes and Centerville. He noted that
the findings of fact do not shot enough significant advantages to
consolidate the two (2) communities. A recommendation was given
to the Municipal Board to this effect.
Have the governing bodies looked at merging the four (4) cities?
Mayor Reinert said this would appear to be the most logical
direction to go. However, he noted that community pride is not
easy to put aside. It appears that the people are willing to pay
more taxes to maintain their community identity.
Pat Smith, Charter Commission Chairman said he felt that this is
an interesting period for this entire area. New residents now
out number long time residents and they are beginning to ask for
changes. They do not have the same community spirit.
Mayor Reinert explained that Lino Lakes historically has been the
least populated of the quad cities. Now Lino Lakes is the "in"
place to live and has become the largest of the quad cities. The
other cities are now looking at Lino Lakes as the "big brother"
who is just waiting to take over.
PAGE 7
