1
CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION SESSION FEBRUARY 6, 1993
at the direction of the City, will there be discussions based on
how liberal the City boards and commissions should be in fitting
the goals of the City with the goals of the Comprehensive Land
Use Plan? Mayor Reinert explained that the vision for Lino Lakes
is very broad. The City must be sensitive to the environment.
Mr. Gelbmann suggested that a mission statement would be
important because it makes everyone push in the same direction.
Mrs. Scharpen, Charter Commission member noted that a recent
survey received good response and asked if this could be done
again. Mayor Reinert noted that surveys are costly but do
provide a way to reach out and find out what the citizens think
about particular issues. Mrs. Liljedahl said cable T V is also a
good way to get information to the people. Mr. Tesch noted that
he has received a lot of input from people who watch the public
meetings. He explained that the newsletter has been expanded and
improved. He also noted that time and money are common problems
in trying to keep the community informed.
Mr. Bohjanen, Charter Commission member suggested that a
questionnaire be inserted in each newsletter. A particular
interest area could be highlighted with each newsletter.
The possibility of a municipal golf course was discussed. Mayor
Reinert explained that this is a new and exciting idea for Lino
Lakes, however, no one knows where this venture may go. He
explained that the City Council would appreciate comments and
encouraged everyone to think about the idea.
Mr. Wessel explained how the municipal golf course idea
originated. Mr. Glenn Rehbein is looking for a way to develop
his property along the south side of I35W in a way that it will
be compatible with the long term needs of the City. The golf
course could be constructed now and still maintain the long term
option to develop the property into something else. Mrs.
Nordine, Planning and Zoning Board member noted that once the
land is developed into a golf course, it will be difficult to
take this open space away for other uses. Mr. Smith noted that
long ago the Economic Development Committee felt that this
freeway interchange should be kept for commercial/industrial
development.
Mayor Reinert said he felt that a golf course would blend well
with the planned business park and water tower on the north side
of I35W. He explained that a municipal golf course could be a
real amenity for this community as well as a revenue source.
Mrs. Nordine, Planning and Zoning Board member asked if there
would be a club house? It was explained that a club house was
PAGE 9
15
