27 <br />COUNCIL WORK SESSION JUNE 8, 1994 <br />Mayor Reinert asked if there would be additional mosquito control <br />for the Park. Mr. Asleson said that additional mosquito control <br />can be requested for certain events. <br />Mayor Reinert asked about weed control. Mr. Asleson explained <br />that weed control will be incorporated into the turf <br />establishment. Mayor Reinert asked about weed control in the <br />swimming area. Mr. Asleson explained that elimination of <br />sediment will help control weeds, additional weed control is <br />planned for the future. <br />Council Member Neal asked when do people swim at the beach. Mr. <br />Asleson said that the beach was in use last year. He noted that <br />security may be a problem for a while. <br />Mayor Reinert asked if volley ball courts, horse shoe pits and <br />other such activities are planned. Mr. Asleson said there will <br />be areas for these activities. Park users will bring their own <br />equipment or borrow equipment from the city hall. <br />Mr. Asleson explained the Park Board felt that by creating a more <br />attractive place, more people will come and use the Park. <br />Council Member Bergeson said he had mixed feeling regarding <br />relocating the parking lot. He noted that some "unwholesome" <br />activities have taken place in the parking lot and asked if the <br />parking lot were relocated closer to West Shadow Lake Drive, <br />would there be better control. Mr. Asleson said hopefully. He <br />noted that there will be some lighting on the trails. <br />Council Member Kuether asked if use of the picnic shelter would <br />be on a reservation basis. She felt Lino Lakes residents should <br />be given priority. Mr. Asleson explained that this issue has not <br />been addressed. <br />Land Acquisition Needs, Birch Park, Marty Asleson <br />Mr. Asleson displayed a map giving the location of Birch Park and <br />explained that the proposed Trapper's Crossing subdivision will <br />be tying into this park. Mr. Asleson gave the City Council a <br />copy of an aerial photograph of the area. He explained his first <br />concern is where residents from the proposed Trapper's Crossing <br />subdivision will access Birch Park. It appears that any place of <br />access involves crossing wetlands. Crossing wetlands between the <br />subdivision and the park means that the City should follow the <br />national standards for efficient use of wetland. Also a safe <br />place to cross wetlands to Birch Park must be provided.
