She explained that this is a very challenging
and exciting time both nationally and regionally with the development of the Fairview
Lakes Health Care Region. She noted that her term on the board began July 1, 1995. Ms.
Carlson presented some booklets and an annual report from Fairview Hospitals.
Ms. Carlson explained that Fairview Hospitals are a value based organization. These
values are compassion, dignity, integrity and service. Ms. Carlson said that she hoped to
be a part of bringing these values to the region and to our community and be a source of
communication between this community, the Board and Fairview Hospitals.
Mr. Wordelman, Senior Vice President with the Fairview Hospital system explained that
he is responsible for the development of the northeast regional facility which is now
named Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care. He reminded the City Council that he had
appeared before the them in January, 1995 to update the City Council on what was
happening at that time. He explained that District Memorial Hospital in Forest Lake and
the Chisago Health Services in Chisago Lakes have joined Fairview Hospital and have
planned an overall goal of consolidating operations along with Fairview and developing a
concept of a regionally focused health care system. The region consists of Lino
Lakes/Circle Pines on the south boundary to Rush City on the north boundary.
Mr. Wordelman said the purpose of his visit this evening is to let the City Council know
that a site has been selected for the new regional medical center. The site is located
between I35 and T.H. Highway 61 about 2.5 miles north of downtown Forest Lake and
about 1.5 miles south of the main intersection in Wyoming. The site contains 110 acres
and has access to every area in the region. The site will also contain various other
community based services. Mr. Wordelman noted that sites are still being reviewed for
ambulatory care and clinic development. There has been some discussion with members
of the Lino Lakes staff about a possible location in Lino Lakes.
Mr. Wordelman noted the Vision 20/20 program and explained that Fairview Hospital
had discussed providing resources to assist in conducting a community health assessment.
Correspondence has been provided on this matter and Fairview Hospitals will assist that
ongoing project.
Mr. Wordelman said that he is excited about the new regional hospital project and also
excited to have Ms. Carlson as part of the Board. She will be an integral part of the
continuing development of health care focused on a regional basis.
Page 2
