1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 27, 1995 <br />Consideration of a Petition Titled "City Cap on Building New <br />Homes" - Mrs. Anderson explained that this petition was delivered <br />to her office at the same time the above petition was delivered. <br />This petition contains 186 qualifying signatures. As outlined in <br />the previous "green sheet", 292 signatures are required to make <br />an initiative or referendum petition sufficient and allow such <br />petition to be placed on the next scheduled election. At least <br />582 qualifying signatures are required to allow an initiative or <br />referendum petition to be placed on a ballot at a special <br />election. <br />Mrs. Anderson explained that this petition is not sufficient to <br />require that the matter be placed on a ballot. She recommended <br />that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 95 - 39 Determining <br />that the Petition Entitled, "City Cap on Building New Homes" is <br />insufficient and direct the City Clerk -Treasurer to deliver a <br />copy of the petition, together with a written statement of its <br />defects to the sponsoring committee. <br />Council Member Neal asked Mrs. Anderson if she told the <br />sponsoring committee that the petition was insufficient. Mrs. <br />Anderson said no, that she had to leave town and did not have <br />time to notify anyone. Council Member Neal asked if the <br />sponsoring committee knew about her recommendation prior to this <br />Council meeting. Mrs. Anderson explained that she thought that <br />members of the sponsoring committee were at the Council work <br />session where the matter was discussed. <br />Council Member Bergeson moved to adopt Resolution No. 95 - 39. <br />Council Member Kuether seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Resolution No. 95 - 39 can be found at the end of these minutes. <br />Consideration of a Petition Titled, "Improved Criteria on <br />Notification" - Mrs. Anderson explained that this petition was <br />delivered to her office with the above two (2) petitions. The <br />petition contains 201 qualifying signatures. As outlined in the <br />previous "green sheets", 292 signatures are required to make an <br />initiative or referendum petition sufficient and allow such <br />petition to be placed on the next scheduled election ballot. At <br />least 582 signatures are required to allow an initiative or <br />referendum petition to be placed on a ballot at a special <br />election. <br />The petition titled, "Improved Criteria on Notification" does not <br />have the required number of signatures and requested that the <br />City Council adopt Resolution No. 95 - 40 returning the petition <br />to the sponsoring committee.
