COUNCIL MINUTES July 8,1996 <br />Mr. Schumacher stated he will have Ms. Vaske investigate all options. <br />CONSIDERATION OF THE ANNUAL CENTENNIAL FIRE DISTRICT REPORT AND <br />1997 BUDGET, CHIEF MILO BENNETT <br />Chief Milo Bennett referred to the 1995 Annual Report and the 1997 Operating Budget. He <br />summarized the 1995 Annual Report and stated that goals for 1996 include improving the <br />preplan program further with more information concerning hazards in the buildings, complete the <br />lowering of the ISO rating, and to develop a carbon monoxide alarm educational program. <br />Council Member Kuether stated there has been a lot of publicity about another community <br />beginning safety camp for children five (5) years old. She asked how Chief Bennett selected <br />after the age group that completed 3rd grade to begin safety camp. Chief Bennett indicated that <br />he has not heard of any safety camps beginning at age five (5). He stated that 3rd grade is when <br />children can learn and retain what they have learned. <br />Council Member Kuether asked why bike safety classes are in August and not June. Chief <br />Bennett explained that August is when the presenters are available. Council Member Kuether <br />stated the City needs a safety camp and bike rodeo. <br />Council Member Kuether asked how many defibrillators does his department own. Chief <br />Bennett indicated there will be four (4) defibrillators. That particular tool needs specific training. <br />He noted it is very beneficial <br />Council Member Lyden asked about problems regarding a visual address on citizens homes. <br />Chief Bennett explained that without a visual address, time is wasted trying to reach an <br />emergency. <br />Council Member Lyden suggested the address issue could be pro -actively dealt with in the City's <br />newsletter. Chief Bennett stated the issue will be better dealt with one on one. <br />Chief Bennett stated that the 1997 Budget has been presented to the City Administrator and <br />Steering Committee. He asked for Council approval of the 1997 Budget. He stated he is asking <br />for just over a one-quarter (1/4) of one percent increase. He noted the outlined areas which <br />indicated there was significant change from 1996. The net effect is $1,330.00 increase. He noted <br />the Fire Department does have volunteers so there is a smaller effect on salaries. <br />Council Member Kuether stated that the Fire Department is doing a great job. <br />Council Member Kuether moved to approve the Annual Centennial Fire District Report and 1997 <br />Budget. Council Member Neal seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />4 <br />• <br />
