• <br />• <br />COUNCIL WORK SESSION AUGUST 21, 1996 <br />CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />MINUTES <br />DATE • August 21, 1996 <br />TIME STARTED 5:00 p.m. <br />TIME ENDED 8:45 p.m. <br />MEMBERS PRESENT • Council Members Bergeson, Kuether, Lyden <br />and Neal and Mayor Landers <br />Staff members present: City Administrator, Randy Schumacher; Community <br />Development Director, Brian Wessel; Solid Waste Coordinator, Jackie Constant and <br />Clerk -Treasurer Marilyn Anderson. <br />TRANSPORTATION PLAN SUMMARY, SRF <br />At the last Council meeting, Council asked staff for more informat <br />Transportation Plan and the people responsible for drafting the <br />Mr. Ahrens have interviewed Mr. Ferrol Robinson who is <br />NAC on this project. Mr. Robinson explained that <br />the County Plan is . required to be updated. In addition, the level of detail does not <br />include all of the Lino Lakes issues. However, the Lino Lakes Transportation Plan will be <br />required to be coordinated with the County Plan and the transportation plans of adjoining <br />cities. <br />Council Member Lyden noted that local and County streets can get Lino Lakes citizens to <br />the freeways in a "heartbeat". However, once our citizens reach either I -35E or I -35W, <br />they sit there as if the freeways are parking lots. Mr. Robinson noted that there are no <br />plans to improve either freeway except for regular maintenance and safety issues. The <br />State is demanding that every community understand there is no money to update the <br />system. The State (Metropolitan Council) wants communities to build parallel streets. <br />• Mr. Robinson was asked what would happen if the City ignores the Metropolitan Council <br />on this issue.
