CFD provided mutual aid assistance to Shoreview on a
structure fire.
Alarms and Hazardous Condition Calls
In 2012, there were 96 incidents and in 2013, there were 120 incidents that fell into the
categories of: Hazardous Condition (400 codes), Service Calls (500 codes), Good Intent
calls (600 codes), and False Alarms (700 codes). Staff spoke with other suburban fire
agencies as well as other fire professionals to determine which of these calls could be
handled by a duty officer instead of paging out a full crew. Of the 96 incidents in 2012,
64 incidents (66%) and of the 120 incidents in 201.3, 87 incidents (72%) could have been
handled by a police officer assigned as a fire duty officer.
Conclusion
By following the protocol recommended by the Medical Director of North ambulance,
medical incidents requiring a full crew would have been reduced from 346 to 119 in 2012
(a 65% reduction) and 39.1 to 139 in 2013 (a 64% reduction) with no reduction in service.
ONE VISION.
