CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION NOVEMBER 5,1997 <br />Staff suggested that instead of offering a "bridge" Council could consider offering an <br />increased percentage of sick leave. Currently, an employee who retires with 20 years of <br />service is eligible for 50% of their accumulated sick leave. <br />Council Member Bergeson noted that Bethel College continues to pay the medical benefit <br />to retires over the age of 60 as if they still were employed. There is no benefit for retirees <br />over the age of 65. <br />Council Member Bergeson was asked to provide additional information from the Bethel <br />College plan. Staff was directed to prepare parameters for retiree health coverage. <br />This matter will be discussed at the next work session. <br />ORGANIZED COLLECTION UPDATE, JACKIE CONSTANT <br />The question of whether the City should implement an organized waste collection <br />program was defeated on the election ballot yesterday. Some Council Members felt that <br />the issue was not correctly handled and all issues both pro and con s ve been <br />communicated to the citizens. <br />It was noted that SCORE dollars were used to financ ng the <br />citizens of the Council approved Solid Waste, o r „ an t was also noted that <br />the haulers are required to contribute to S 0 <br />Since organized waste collects • �, �"' � � t u . e City will continue the current <br />hauler licensing program e period to January 1 through December <br />31. <br />800 MEGAHE <br />TTEE, RANDY SCHUMACHER <br />Fire Chief Bennet s pdated the Council on this matter several weeks ago. A committee is <br />being formed consisting of one elected official and one staff member from each city or <br />township in the County. <br />The consensus of the Council was to appoint Chief Milo Bennett to the committee and <br />send a letter stating that the Council will appoint a Council Member after the first of the <br />year when the new Council takes office. <br />LOCATION OF ANTENNA TOWERS, BRIAN WESSEL <br />Council Member Lyden suggested placing antenna towers on school property. Mr. Wessel <br />explained that staff is considering allowing them in PSP, Parks and other such public <br />property. <br />This matter will be addressed at the next work session. <br />PAGE 2 <br />
