COUNCIL WORK SESSION NOVEMBER 10, 1997 <br />Community rooms and conference rooms were discussed with staff noting that these <br />rooms are located so that they can be used by both the Police Department and the City <br />Hall. <br />Staff noted that if additional space is needed for the Police Department before the year <br />2010, an addition can be constructed. <br />Council asked why the Police Department and the City Hall cannot share a building? <br />Staff explained that they can share a building, however, each entity wanted a separate <br />identity. Council asked if a two (2) story building could serve both the City Hall and the <br />Police Department. Staff explained that separate identities could not be maintained. <br />Council asked if the Early Childhood Center is going to be big enough to take care of the <br />expansion needs of both the City Hall and the Police Department. Staff explained that <br />there would be enough space. <br />Staff displayed the floor plan for the Early Childhood Center building noting that it is a <br />simple building. <br />Staff asked Council to consider building the entire civic c n ct noting <br />that funding is available and it does not include prop <br />A final design will be prepared and prese unc or their review on <br />December 15th. <br />Chief Pecchia explained t <br />proposal addressing th <br />square foot build <br />design was redu <br />Department need i e <br />that he has seen t 17,000 <br />ing architect who has prepared a different <br />artment needs. Originally, he asked for a 27,000 <br />ge and the community room were removed and his <br />8 square feet. This building will address all of the Police <br />year 2020. Chief Pecchia also noted that this is the first time <br />square foot version of the Police Department building. <br />Council Member Neal felt the new Police Department building should be constructed <br />next to the fire station. <br />Council Member Lyden felt that the Council had demonstrated a commitment to building <br />the Police Department building and the Early Childhood Center and suggested that the <br />City Hall could wait. <br />Council Member Bergeson said that he could not make any decision on this matter <br />tonight and asked for another meeting to discuss this proposal. <br />Staff explained that the Early Childhood Center must be completed by November, 1998 <br />to meet the needs of the School District. <br />2 <br />
