SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING NOVEMBER 18, 1997 <br />basement of the Early Childhood Center. He noted the concerns regarding just one <br />building at this time. <br />Council Member Neal explained that he was still in favor of building the new Police <br />Department building next to the Centennial Fire District building. He also is in favor of <br />waiting two (2) before constructing the building. He suggested that the Early Childhood <br />Center be constructed now and the current City Hall be remodeled. <br />Council Member Lyden was unable to attend the meeting this evening. However, he did <br />contact City Hall and asked that the following comments be given to the Council: <br />- The existing Police Department building not be sold until a satisfactory Police <br />Department plan has been approved for construction in the Town Center <br />- Supportive of the plan presented by the Chief of Police (21,388 square feet) <br />If funds for all three (3) buildings are not there, City Hall will have to wait. <br />- Council should plan the civic center site based on the needs in the <br />this site cannot demonstrate the ability to expand by 30%, m <br />Funkhauser property <br />- There must be proof that the land is available <br />0. She suggested that a <br />budget be prep eci what can be constructed for that amount of money. <br />Mayor Landers n current plan indicates a 17,000 square foot Police Department <br />building and Chie "'ecchia wants a 21,500 square foot building. This situation has to be <br />resolved. <br />Staff was asked if the Early Childhood Center has been approved by the Centennial <br />School District. If the School District decides to locate the Early Childhood Center <br />somewhere else, there will be no space for expansion. <br />Council Member Bergeson suggested that the City Hall and the Police Department <br />building should be equal in terms of square footage. <br />Mayor Landers felt that both buildings be close in size. He asked if it appeared likely that <br />there would be a tax increase in two (2) or three (3) years because of these buildings? Mr. <br />Schumacher said no because some of the tax increment districts will be running out <br />causing an increase in tax revenues. <br />PAGE 4 <br />
