DGE, DAN TESCH <br />The Council was gi a "handout" describing a Health Insurance Continuation Program <br />for some employees who are retiring. Mr. Tesch outlined the program and noted that it is <br />a voluntary program offered to employees who have devoted a large amount of their <br />career to the City. <br />The program allows the retiring person to use up to 100% of their accumulated sickleave <br />to pay their health insurance coverage after retirement. This option would be available to <br />employees who retire between the ages of 59 and 62. <br />Council noted that this program would be available to non-union employees and would <br />be part of the bargaining strategy during union contract negotiations. <br />Mr. Tesch was instructed to determine what the cost would be to continue health <br />insurance for the retiring person until they reach age 65 and are eligible for Medicare. <br />PAGE 1 <br />
