• <br />• <br />COUNCIL MINUTES MAY 12, 1997 <br />Council Member Kuether suggested this donation be discussed in conjunction with the request <br />for Lino Lakes to send an officer to assist at East Grand Forks. The Council agreed to do so. <br />Consider Authorizing Police Officer to Volunteer at East Grand Forks - Mr. Schumacher <br />explained that Police Chief Pecchia has indicated one individual in his department who has <br />indicated a willingness to participate in the League program, to assist at East Grand Forks for six <br />days. <br />Council Member Kuether inquired regarding the cost of this participation. Mr. Schumacher <br />explained it will be the officer's salary plus the cost of the squad car. He reported the City's <br />insurance coverage does apply and noted the cost of the salary may be reimbursed. <br />Council Member Kuether asked the cost for housing and meals and stated she would like to <br />know what the full cost will be. Council Member Neal advised they will stay at the Air Force <br />Base. <br />Council Member Kuether stated she does not object to participation and believes the City does <br />not need to be reimbursed but she would like to know the cost. <br />Council Member Neal moved to amend the original motion approving a $5,000 donation to East <br />Grand Forks and send the check to: LMC Flood Recovery Fund, 145 University Avenue W., St. <br />Paul, MN 55102-2044. Council Member Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Council Member Neal moved to authorize sending one police officer, or officers, as the Police <br />Chief or Council designates, to volunteer at East Grand Forks. Council Member Lyden seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Council Member Neal noted the City of Lino Lakes may experience a devastating storm and need <br />this type of volunteer assistance. <br />Letter of Commendation to the Lino Lakes Police Department - Diana Turner commented on <br />the need to recognize Police Officers when credit is due. She advised that now something has <br />happened and she would like to read a letter of commendation into the record. She read a letter <br />detailing several situations in which she and her family were greatly supported by the Lino Lakes <br />Police Department and commended the entire Police Department for their professionalism and <br />leadership. The letter also addressed the location of the Police Department and need to assure a <br />timely response. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />REMINDER, Centennial School Board Election, Tuesday, May 20, 1997.
