• • COUNCIL MINUTES MAY 12, 1997 Council Member Kuether suggested this donation be discussed in conjunction with the request for Lino Lakes to send an officer to assist at East Grand Forks. The Council agreed to do so. Consider Authorizing Police Officer to Volunteer at East Grand Forks - Mr. Schumacher explained that Police Chief Pecchia has indicated one individual in his department who has indicated a willingness to participate in the League program, to assist at East Grand Forks for six days. Council Member Kuether inquired regarding the cost of this participation. Mr. Schumacher explained it will be the officer's salary plus the cost of the squad car. He reported the City's insurance coverage does apply and noted the cost of the salary may be reimbursed. Council Member Kuether asked the cost for housing and meals and stated she would like to know what the full cost will be. Council Member Neal advised they will stay at the Air Force Base. Council Member Kuether stated she does not object to participation and believes the City does not need to be reimbursed but she would like to know the cost. Council Member Neal moved to amend the original motion approving a $5,000 donation to East Grand Forks and send the check to: LMC Flood Recovery Fund, 145 University Avenue W., St. Paul, MN 55102-2044. Council Member Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Council Member Neal moved to authorize sending one police officer, or officers, as the Police Chief or Council designates, to volunteer at East Grand Forks. Council Member Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Council Member Neal noted the City of Lino Lakes may experience a devastating storm and need this type of volunteer assistance. Letter of Commendation to the Lino Lakes Police Department - Diana Turner commented on the need to recognize Police Officers when credit is due. She advised that now something has happened and she would like to read a letter of commendation into the record. She read a letter detailing several situations in which she and her family were greatly supported by the Lino Lakes Police Department and commended the entire Police Department for their professionalism and leadership. The letter also addressed the location of the Police Department and need to assure a timely response. NEW BUSINESS REMINDER, Centennial School Board Election, Tuesday, May 20, 1997.
