•
•
CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION NOVEMBER 4,1998
Kim stated she is very interested in visiting conservation areas in Chicago. She was very
impressed with the developers participation in the meetings. John added that he was very
encouraged by those meetings held last.
Kim stated the environmental consultants will make a presentation to Council on
Monday, December 14, 1998.
CITIZENS CONCERNS, CAROLINE DAHL
Caroline stated she received calls from three (3) residents about garbage pick up within
the City. One resident called and indicated a rental property next door did not have
garbage pick up and as a result she now has rats. The resident asked if there is a system
in place to determine who does have garbage pick up. The resident also said she was in
favor of a City wide garbage pick up requirement. Marty stated because it is a health
issue, the resident should report her complaint to the Police Department. Andy added
that the County Health Department is visiting the property tomorrow. He stated the City
needs to hire an exterminator to get rid of the rats.
Caroline stated that another resident called from the 625 Ash Street area and complained
about a rental property that burns their garbage. The resident is concerned with the smell
from the garbage burning. Dave stated the Police Department should be notified.
Caroline stated a third resident called regarding garbage pick up on another rental
property. The Police Department is taking care of this complaint.
Caroline passed out an article regarding a Reforestation Program being done by
Shoreview. The program offers residents a chance to buy trees at wholesale prices and
offers help in planting the trees if the property owner is unable. The trees are not
guaranteed. The program is a way to replace trees that were lost in this year's storms.
Kim stated the Friends of the Parks has an annual tree sale that offers trees at a
discounted price. Dave suggested this annual event be advertised so residents are aware
of the sale. Andy suggested the Friends of the Parks sell Christmas Trees and Poinsettias
as well.
Kim indicated she will speak with Sandie to see what can be done to improve the sale.
1998 GENERAL ELECTION REVIEW, MARILYN ANDERSON
Kim stated this item will be addressed at the regular Council meeting, Monday,
November 9, 1998.
