CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MARCH 3,1999 <br />This item will appear on the regular agenda Monday, March 8, 1999. <br />DISCUSSION OF 1999 PARK BOARD GOALS, RICK DEGARDNER <br />Mr. George Lindy, Chair of the Parks Board, distributed three (3) handouts. The first was <br />a cover sheet summarizing the Park Boards goals. The second was a list of the 1999 <br />Goals and Priorities. The third detailed the Park Dedication Fund Summary. <br />George briefly reviewed the handouts noting the Park Board is concerned regarding <br />increased maintenance costs due to the City's new Preservation Development Plan. <br />George asked the City Council for considerations in the budget for the Parks Department. <br />This item will appear on the regular agenda Monday, March 8, 1999.. <br />DISCUSS ISSUE OF BLEACHER SAFETY WITHIN THE tITY, �RJC <br />DEGARDNER <br />Rick distributed a handout that explained that the Par mein and Inspections <br />Department recently conducted an inventory`of all bleachers owned and maintained by <br />the City to determine if there are any safety issues which need to be addressed. <br />The City currently owns and maintains It sets of bleachers. Of the 11 sets, 10 do not <br />meet current uniform build .g code (TBC) standards. Violations include absence of <br />guard rails, excessive seat to foot board; spacing, no toe boards, and bleachers not <br />properly anchored <br />Staff reconmen led three (3) options to rectify this situation: <br />Option 1 Irntnediately replace all existing, non-compliant bleachers with new bleachers <br />that meet UBC standards. <br />Option 2 - Remove all existing bleachers immediately and replace over a 3-5 year period. <br />Spectators could bring lawn chairs from home. <br />Option 3 - Leave existing bleachers at their current location and replace over a 3-5 year <br />period. <br />Rick recommended Council rectify the situation with Option 1. He noted that the cost <br />would be approximately $25,000 to replace all the non-compliant bleachers. <br />Council directed staff to remove all non-compliant bleachers. Replacement of the <br />bleachers will be discussed at a future date. <br />2 <br />• <br />• <br />
