Communication improvements include changes to a document I thought could
never be improved - the city newsletter. This year, for the first time, we devoted
one entire issue to a very important topic in Lino Lakes - the Comprehensive Plan.
We hit it from every angle imaginable to provide citizens a good framework for
what we were doing. Other newsletter changes give citizens information about
near-term infrastructure projects so they can start planning ahead for changes in
travel, day care and other schedules. Small changes in newsletter format makes
economic development information easier and quicker to read and understand for
citizens on the go.
New opportunities for citizens to interact with the city include Roundtables and
Mayor's Coffees.
The Council also initiated 'Myth and Reality' ads regarding the Comprehensive
Plan this year. The purpose was to ensure that citizens received factual, unbiased
information. Feedback about these ads has been extremely positive.
We also are testing communications options that can be used in limited situations,
such as delivering flyers and sending letters regarding specific neighborhood
issues.
We will have email and a web page at the new city offices.
We must continue to provide unbiased information to citizens in a cost-
effective manner.
4
