CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JUNE 23, 1999 <br />Mayor Sullivan reconvened the meeting at 7:50 p.m. <br />It was the consensus of Council to approve the sale of the property for $60,000 plus the <br />cost of assessments. <br />This item will appear on the agenda for the regular Council meeting on Monday evening. <br />Ms. Donna Carlson, Planning and Zoning Board, requested a written recommendation <br />from staff regarding this project. <br />CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTING GRANT OFFICERS, STEVE <br />MORTENSON <br />On February 17, 1999, Council was asked to accept the Community Oriented Policing <br />grant funds in the amount of $150,000. The grant would be funded over a period of three <br />(3) years, 1999 through 2001, and would be used to hire two (2) police officers. At that <br />same meeting, Council directed the Police Department to submit a h .plication, <br />which would pay the entire salary of the (2) officers for the to . h�.�, ) year <br />grant. Only 11 or 12 <br />officers are assigned to full-time patrol. <br />Council expressed concern because additional staff is needed in other departments as well <br />and requested that the impact of community policing be measured. <br />Council directed staff to prepare the overall staff projections for the next work session. <br />Information regarding the maintenance or improvement of the level of police coverage as <br />the population increases was also requested. Staff was also asked to provide information <br />regarding the ratio of Police Officers to population and to investigate the possibility of <br />joint policing. <br />This item was removed from the June 28th agenda.
