CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION FEBRUARY 9, 2000 <br />Mr. Vincent, Real Estate Developer, stated he has no new information. Mr. Babacus has <br />been waiting to see what the City needs from him. <br />OUTDOOR STORAGE, JEFF SMYSER <br />Staff referred to Ordinance No. 02 — 2000, Amend Zoning Ordinance to add Exterior <br />Storage as a Conditional Use in the LI, Light Industrial Zoning District. Staff advised the <br />purpose of the ordinance is to have an area within the City that provides for outdoor <br />storage while also protecting adjoining properties. <br />Council Member Carlson distributed a memo regarding her concerns with the storage <br />ordinance. The memo asked for clarity on principal and accessory use, expressed <br />concerns about proper screening, and suggested including a limitation to the percentage <br />of the site that can be used for outside storage. <br />Staff advised principal use is defined as the primary use or function of the building on the <br />site. An accessory use is an incidental use to the principal use. Staff advised his comments are included in Council packets. <br />Mr. Hovey did indicate that he "would not object to the granting of a variance if the lake <br />setback is maximized and a condition involving vegetation is placed on the variance". He <br />has recommended that the shore impact zone be maintained or established in native, <br />unmowed vegetation. <br />2 <br />
