CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MARCH 21, 2001 <br />Mr. Carl Rasmussen, Coach of Bantam A Hockey Team, came forward and read an <br />article from the newspaper regarding the team making it to the National Tournament. He <br />distributed a letter requesting sponsorship. The letter outlined a request for donations to <br />participate in the National Hockey Tournament on April 4-8, 2001, in Philadelphia. He <br />noted a team from this community has never been to a national tournament before. <br />Mr. Rasmussen continued stating the cost to get the entire team there is approximately <br />$20,000. Channel 5 News interviewed the team earlier today. The piece will air in two <br />(2) days and will also be asking for donations. He requested the City make a donation to <br />help defray the cost of the trip. <br />City Administrator Waite Smith advised the City receives numerous requests every year <br />from groups involving children. The City always has to turn them down. The Mayor and <br />Council do have a budget of $5,000 for City Marketing. The amount left in the fund after <br />the appreciation dinner is $2,000. She expressed concern that the City will receive other <br />requests that will have to be turned down because there is no money in the budget. <br />Council Member Reinert stated it does not happen very often t . n& a m this <br />community makes it to the national level. The national ley set the <br />precedent for making a donation. <br />City Administrator Waite Smith suggested tha <br />the Council. He noted the problem is the time restriction in which to obtain the money. <br />City Administrator Waite Smith stated she can request a check for $1,000. However, <br />formal action should be taken at the Monday Council meeting. <br />It was the consensus of Council that the team being involved in the national tournament is <br />a unique circumstance and the City should donate $1,000 to the Centennial Bantam A <br />Hockey Team. <br />This item will appear on the regular Council agenda Monday, March 26, 2001, 6:30 p.m. <br />Council Members suggested the Quad Press be notified regarding this event. <br />4 <br />
