COUNCIL MINUTES MAY 29, 2001 <br />Council Member O'Donnell moved to direct staff to draft a Tax Abatement Policy, as presented. <br />Council Member Dahl seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Resolution No. 01— 74, Calling for a Public Hearing Regarding Granting a Tax Abatement for <br />the Target/Kohls/Ryan Project and Authorizing Staff to Draft a Tax Abatement Resolution — <br />Finance Director Rolek advised a request has been made to the City for tax abatement to be provided <br />to the Marketplace Development. According to the Minnesota Tax Abatement statutes, a public <br />hearing is required before the City Council can act on an abatement request. <br />In addition, the City can grant an abatement only by adopting an abatement resolution specifying the <br />terms of the abatement, and the nature and extent of the public benefits resulting from the abatement. <br />Resolution No. 01 — 74 calls for a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2001, regarding <br />the granting of a tax abatement to the Marketplace Development Area, and directs staff to draft a tax <br />abatement resolution for Council consideration at the July 23, 2001, C ouncil meeting. <br />Council Member Reinert moved to adopt Resolution No. 01 — 7 a,,,,,#)fir d. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br />ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT REPORT, DAN TESCH <br />Conditional Job Offer to Part-time Seasonal Building Inspector — Administration Director Tesch <br />advised the City has funds available for a seasonal building inspector. After an initial recruitment <br />effort proved unsuccessful, the City targeted trade schools that specialize in building inspection. <br />Three (3) applications were received and two (2) interviews were held. Staff's choice for this position <br />is Mr. Patrick Moonen. Mr. Moonen is a student who is studying the inspection trade, and is able to <br />fit into the City's periodic schedule. He will work under the direction of the Building Official. <br />Mayor Bergeson inquired about the number of hours per week the position will entail. <br />Administration Director Tesch advised the position is full-time but only for a short period of time. <br />4 <br />
