COUNCIL MINUTES JUNE 11, 2001
OPEN MIKE
Ann Boeckman, 6492 Tomahawk Trail, stated she was in attendance regarding the drainage on
Tomahawk Trail. She indicated once the drainage area was dug out, they started having water
problems. She gave a history of her problems and concerns. She asked if any of the surplus in the
budget could be diverted to the drainage problems in her neighborhood. She presented photographs
of the drainage pond and stated the pond was 35 feet from her well, when State law required it to be
50 feet from any well.
Mayor Bergeson stated they had received her correspondence and requested the City Engineer make
comments regarding this issue.
City Engineer Powell indicated they were aware of this problem and when they started the 2001
Water Management project, they included this area in that project. Surveys had been done on the site
and once they had a recommended solution, the neighborhood would be informed of that solution. He
stated they were looking for a permanent solution.
The City Administrator clarified the City had a 3.5 million dollar reserve, not a surplus.
Donald Dunn, 6885 Black Duck Drive, stated he was concerned about the request concerning
property owned by Council Member Dahl, who owned 11 acres, and her placing 10 acres into another
category. He stated the point was that an elected official serves to benefit financially and
considerably by accelerating the availability of that land for development. He stated it was not right
when an elected official benefits financially due to their position. He suggested removing the request,
or that Council Member Dahl excuse herself from this issue. He stated he personally wanted to see
her withdraw her request since he believed this was setting a bad example if it was allowed to
continue. Mr. Dunn suggested that if Council Member Dahl were going to make the request, she
should do so as a "private citizen". He asked the Council to look at what was best for the community
before voting on the Comprehensive Plan.
FINANCE DEPARTMENT REPORT, AL ROLEK
There was no Finance Department report.
ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT REPORT, DAN TESCH
Consider 2001 Liquor License Renewals (3/5 Vote Required) — City Administrator Waite Smith
advised all 2001 liquor licenses were complete, all fees had been paid, and certificates of insurance
had been received, with the exception of Shirley Kay's, the American Legion, and Miller's on Main.
The Police Department had completed its annual investigation of all establishment owners and their
managers. The Centennial Fire Department had also completed its inspection and found no
violations.
2
