The Association does not want to wait
until next year to be told they cannot use the property. He stated the Association is trying
to solve the problem now. He stated the Association is working with the County Park
and Rice Creek Watershed District to build a bridge to cross the open water. The
Association is requesting the use of the 80th Street right-of-way for a designated crossing.
Public Services Director DeGardner stated the current City ordinances allow
snowmobiles on the right-of-way. However, there is an existing home about 100 feet
away from the trail. He stated he wanted the City to look at all options before designating
the trail as a snowmobile trail. The City needs to have a good rationale for allowing the
use of the right-of-way.
Mr. Koppy stated the Association has looked at the whole ea and this location is the
easiest place to cross and has the least impact on residents.
Public Services Director DeGardner stated use of the ri
Council action but there might be an issue with the pro
addressed.
would not require
er that will have to be
Mr. Koppy stated the Association can run a fenc-. fro e park to 1-20 to keep
snowmobiles on the trail. He briefly reviewed the background of the issue noting the use of the lake on the
northern side is causing the Herons to leave the area. An ordinance has been introduced
to the City of Centerville. Staff would like to pursue a joint agreement with Centerville
to limit the use of the lake on the northern side. Centerville is holding two public
hearings in March with the intent of approval for a "slow no wake speed" year-round on
the northern side of the lake.
5
