COUNCIL MINUTES MARCH 11, 2002 <br />Connie Grundhofer, 235 Linda, stated she was present this evening representing herself, not the <br />Environmental Board. She stated approximately 27 years ago, the area that now contains the Anoka <br />County Golf Course, had been filled with woodpeckers. However, once the golf course was <br />developed it was felt, in order to beautify the area, a number of dead and large mature trees needed to <br />be removed. She indicated the removal of these trees eliminated the pileated woodpecker from the <br />area. Subsequently, the West Shadow Lake Road area was developed and eliminated the red-headed <br />woodpecker. <br />Ms. Grundhofer presented photographs of three types of nesting colony birds on Lake Peltier island, <br />the great blue heron, the common egret and the black cat night heron. Additionally, the green heron <br />feeds at the island, as well as the forester's tem, which is currently on the State of Minnesota's special <br />concern list, as is the bald eagle. <br />Ms. Grundhofer stated the Lake Peltier island is very precious d should be protected. She felt that <br />the City needs to be concerned about the preservation of its s as well as the other birds and _. <br />plants in the area that are in danger, are of special concern and/or eatened. <br />Liz Wegner, 1525 Peltier Lake Drive, acknowledged that <br />Council to make.
