COUNCIL -MINUTES AUGUST 12, 2002 <br />Community Development Director Grochala anticipated that this development would service the <br />existing traffic in the area and likely eliminate trips elsewhere in the City to other convenience stores. <br />He acknowledged that there will be traffic concerns on Birch Street and consideration may have to be <br />given to widening the road. He noted one recommended condition was for the construction of a right - <br />turn lane on Ware Road. <br />Councilmember Reinert stated this subject site is only one piece of the proposed commercial property <br />in the area, which includes six acres of the Miller property. He felt a number of issues have not been <br />addressed and he proposed that the City Council have a comprehensive discussion on how the entire <br />area should be developed versus allowing the piece meal development of the commercial properties. <br />He stated he was not comfortable with voting on this development this evening and noted the Council <br />had just received the agenda packet information last Wednesday. He stated he would prefer to <br />examine the bigger picture in order to determine the proper development of the entire area and to <br />address the traffic concerns. <br />Mayor Bergeson indicated City staff has made recommendation <br />the City Council needs to take action on. She indicted it is not the responsibility of the City Council to make <br />decisions according to the construction season. She was in favor of discussing this development at a <br />Council work session so the Council has all the answers they need to make an informed decision. <br />Councilmember O'Donnell stated he too supported further discussions on this development. <br />The applicant questioned whether the City Council was considering an additional couple of weeks or <br />months to make a decision.
