COUNCIL MINUTES APRIL 28, 2003 APPROVED 192 Councilmember Carlson asked to amend the motion to indicate that she and Councilmember Reinert 093 would share the second spot. Mayor Bergeson stated he did not believe Centerville was discussing a 194 shared spot; his impression is they will wait and see what night the committee will meet and 195 determine the available appointee. City Administrator Waite Smith confirmed that is her 196 understanding also. 197 198 Councilmember Carlson clarified that one city was appointing someone other than a City 199 Councilmember. City Administrator Waite Smith indicated her understanding was that Lexington 200 may. Councilmember Carlson stated she believes that gives them the option to do something 201 different. City Administrator Waite Smith asked how they could have three people at the table at 202 once. Councilmember Carlson indicated they would only have two at a time. 203 204 Councilmember Carlson moved to amend the motion, to appoint the Mayor and two City Council 205 members, at alternating meetings or with the option of trading meetings if the other could not attend. 206 Councilmember Dahl seconded the motion for discussion. 207 208 Councilmember O'Donnell stated he values Councilmember Carlson and Councilmember Dahl on the 209 City Council and feels they bring information to light that needs to be reviewed. He indicated they 210 have all agreed this needs to move swiftly, and he thinks if they add an alternate member it will 211 require bringing the alternate up to speed and will slow down the process. 212 213 Councilmember Reinert agreed, stating if you are not involved in every meeting, he does not think 214 you can effectively keep up. He does not think they should alternate meetings, but to have an . 15 alternate to fill in absences would be good. 16 217 Councilmember Dahl asked if the Mayor agreed at the work session to participate on this committee, 218 as she does not remember that he did. Mayor Bergeson indicated he agreed to participate if that is 219 what the Council chose. 220 221 Councilmember Carlson stated the question of continuity could be addressed by the fact that these are 222 open meetings. She indicated she does not know how she will vote, and to be part of the discussion 223 as things are taking place gives ownership, and allows you to learn more moving forward. 224 225 Motion failed. Vote: 2 Ayes, 3 Nays.
