• <br />• <br />CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MARCH 23, 2005 <br />APPROVED <br />1 <br />2 Mr. Benke advised the resolution has been adopted by New Brighton, Mounds View, <br />3 Circle Pines, Arden Hills, Blaine, Shoreview, Lexington, the Ramsey County Board and <br />4 the Anoka County Board. <br />5 <br />6 Mr. Benke extended the City of Lino Lakes the opportunity to participate in the North <br />7 Metro I -35W Corridor Coalition. <br />8 <br />9 Mayor Bergeson suggested staff investigate and make a recommendation regarding <br />10 participation in the coalition during the next budget process. <br />11 <br />12 This item was added to the Consent agenda Monday, March 28, 2005, 6:30 p.m. <br />13 <br />14 POLICE DEPARTMENT EXPLORER PROGRAM, CHIEF PECCHIA <br />15 <br />16 Chief Pecchia updated the Council on the Explorer Program. He indicated 20 children <br />17 applied from Lino Lakes and/or Centennial School District. Ten students have been <br />18 selected to participate in the program. The first meeting was held last evening. The <br />19 program is an exceptional program for youth ages 15-20. <br />20 <br />21 Chief Pecchia explained the program, noting it involves codes of conduct, competitions, <br />22 educational requirements as well as fundraisers. The program meets twice a month for <br />23 four months out of the year. <br />24 <br />25 LEASE OF CITY PROPERTY TO AMERICAN LEGION, MARY DIVINE <br />26 <br />27 Economic Development Coordinator Divine advised the American Legion has submitted <br />28 a request to lease approximately 50 feet of City property that is adjacent to the Legion for <br />29 the Legion's use of horseshoe pits. <br />30 <br />31 Economic Development Assistant Divine explained the Legion wants to have four <br />32 horseshoe pits and hold games on weeknights until dusk and on weekends. They have <br />33 not proposed at this time any specific schedule. Approximately 12-16 people could be <br />34 playing at one time, with additional spectators. No outdoor lighting would be required. <br />35 The Legion has offered to pay $500 per month for 12 months out of the year, although <br />36 only using the property for about 5 months out of the year. <br />37 <br />38 Economic Development Coordinator Divine reviewed the issues with the proposal noting <br />39 the City Attorney advised that any restrictions the City wishes to impose could be <br />40 addressed in the lease. <br />41 <br />42 Council directed staff to research the request more and also contact Jim Keinath, City <br />43 Administrator of Circle Pines, for information on horseshoe pits. <br />44 <br />45 <br />46 <br />47 <br />
