APPROVED
1 CITY OF LINO LAKES
2 MINUTES
3 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
4
5 DATE: : May 27, 2008
6 TIME STARTED : 6:30 p.m.
7 TIME ENDED : 8:15 p.m.
8 MEMBERS PRESENT : Council Member Gallup, O'Donnell, Stoltz,
9 Reinert, and Mayor Bergeson
10 MEMBERS ABSENT : none
11
12 STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: City Administrator, Gordon Heitke; City Attorney, Scott
13 Baumgartner; Community Development Director, Mike Grochala; City Engineer, Jim Studenski;
14 Finance Director, Al Rolek; Director of Public Safety, Dave Pecchia; Environmental
15 Coordinator, Marty Asleson; City Clerk, Julie Bartell
16 PUBLIC COMMENT
17 John DeHaven, 1612 Birch Street, Lino Lakes. The council gave permission for he and his wife
18 to get a reverse mortgage and that was a good thing. He received information in the mail on the
19 process (from staff) and was shocked at the amount of paperwork and money that is required.
20 The instructions are virtually impossible to follow or complete. He doesn't believe it was the
21 intent of the council, in passing an ordinance allowing this process, to make it impossible for a
2 person to apply. He also has some general concerns about city operations and road
23 improvements; city staff should be reduced by at least half to fund needed improvements.
24 The Mayor requested that staff leave the council meeting and assist Mr. DeHaven in completing
25 the necessary paperwork.
26 SETTING THE AGENDA
27 The agenda was approved as presented.
28 SPECIAL PRESENTATION
29 Dr. Roger Worner, School Superintendent, Centennial School District, updated the council on
30 the activities and goals of the school district. The district ranks highly in the area of
31 achievement, attendance, behavior and finances. Short and long term concerns were presented
32 and included enrollment changes, attraction (through open enrollment), finances/economy/tax
33 load, commitment of state funding, and fulfillment of promises related to the 2005 operating
34 referendum. They are delighted with the assistance and cooperation of the staff and officials of
35 the City of Lino Lakes. Chairperson Christina Wilson, Centennial School Board, was
36 introduced.
37 The council offered thanks and congratulations on the great education work of the district.
•
