COUNCIL MINUTES January 12, 2015 <br />DRAFT <br />91 <br />92 Council Member Stoesz noted that he represents the City on the NMTC so he has been following <br />93 these actions as they have developed and come forward and can recommend council approval . He <br />94 noted the additional connectivity that the city will receive. Mr. Bradley confirmed that cities will <br />95 receive additional cable drops and boxes as part of the agreement. Council Member Kusterman <br />96 suggested that he's heard only good sides to this action; staff wasn't any to provide any negatives. <br />97 <br />98 Council Member Stoesz moved to approve Resolution No. 15-01 as presented. Council Member <br />99 Rafferty seconded the motion. Motion carried on a voice vote; Council Member Roeser was absent. <br />100 <br />101 Council Member Stoesz moved to approve the First Reading of Ordinance No. 01-15 as presented. <br />102 Council Member Rafferty seconded the motion. Motion carried on a voice vote; Council Member <br />103 Roeser was absent. <br />104 <br />105 3B) Approval of Annual Appointments- Administrator Karlson noted that each year the council <br />106 approves a number of assignments and appointments as indicated in the staff report. This list was <br />107 reviewed and updated by the council at the last work session and is presented for consideration of <br />108 approval. <br />109 <br />110 Council Member Kusterman moved to approve the list of annual appointments as presented. Council <br />111 Member Rafferty seconded the motion. Motion carried on a voice vote; Council Member Roeser was <br />112 absent. <br />113 <br />114 PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT REPORT <br />115 <br />116 4A) PubIic Safety Department Update- Chief Swenson updated the council. The development <br />117 of the fire department into the Public Safety Department is moving ahead on schedule. He noted the <br />118 following: <br />119 <br />120 South Side Fire Station Project — location, architect and schedule noted; consideration of <br />121 approval to seek bids for the project is on the agenda this evening; <br />122 - Thanks to Community Development Director Grochala and other staff for their hard work in <br />123 keeping the fire station project moving forward, on schedule and high quality; <br />124 Recruitment for Fire Department — Centennial Fire Relief has hired a consultant to assist in <br />125 developing a legislative proposal to allow the transfer of pensions from Centennial Fire to the <br />126 city's new firefighter pension plan; <br />127 New Fire Recruits — four paid on-call firefighters have been hired as of January 5 and have <br />128 begun their training; there is an additional applicant in the loop; more applications are coming <br />129 in; a special mailing will not be necessary considering recruitment response but information <br />130 will be included in the next regular newsletter; <br />131 - Training in Progress — There are 12 staff members currently in training as firefighters; a <br />132 second group of trainees will begin on April 8; by the end of August, the department will have <br />133 at least 35 trained firefighters; <br />134 - Equipment — the city will receive some equipment with the disbursements from Centennial <br />135 Fire District; and grant request is pending with FEMA for apparatus funding; the department <br />3 <br />
