GREENHOUSE/NURSERY, COMMERCIAL. An enterprise that conducts the retail <br />and/or wholesale of plants grown on the premises, as well as accessory items (but not power <br />equipment, such as gas or electric lawn mowers and farm implements) directly related to their <br />care and maintenance. (A greenhouse/nursery that does not conduct retail or wholesale is <br />considered horticulture.) <br />areas. <br />GREENWAY. Land shown in the Comprehensive Plan that is intended to: <br />(a) Preserve contiguous open space to define neighborhoods. <br />(b) Preserve ecologic features and function of unique environmentally sensitive <br />(c) Protect a diversity of natural features and habitat. <br />(d) Provide for passive recreational trail opportunities. <br />HARDSHIP. The same as that term is defined in Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 462. <br />HAZARDOUS WASTE. Any refuse, sludge, or other waste material or combination of <br />refuse, sludge, or other waste materials in solid, semi-solid, liquid, or contained gaseous form <br />which because of its quantity, concentration, or chemical, physical, or infectious characteristics <br />may: <br />(a) Cause or significantly contribute to an increase in mortality or an increase in <br />serious or irreversible, or incapacitating reversible illness, or <br />(b) Pose a substantial present or potential hazard to human health or the <br />environment when improperly treated, stored, or transported, or disposed of, or otherwise <br />managed. Categories of hazardous waste materials include, but are not limited to: explosives, <br />flammable, oxidizers, poisons, irritants, and corrosives. Hazardous waste does not include <br />source, special nuclear, or by-product material as defined by the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as <br />amended. <br />HISTORIC SITE. Structure or area of land or water of historic, archaeological, <br />paleontological or architectural value which has been designated as an historic site in the Federal <br />Register of historical landmarks, the Minnesota Historical Society, or by a local governmental <br />unit. <br />HOME EXTENDED BUSINESS. A business conducted as part of a residential use which <br />is beyond the limits and scope of activities for home occupations as defined by this subdivision. <br />HOME OCCUPATION. Any activity by a resident carried out for business purposes and <br />which activity is clearly incidental and secondary to the residential use of the premises, and <br />which activity does not change the residential character thereof. <br />1-22 <br />
