<br />1. Exterior Exposure - ASTM D 4141, Method C (EMMAQUA).
<br />a. No blistering, cracking or chalking. No less than 80 percent gloss retention, no more than
<br />10 units gloss loss and no more than 0.45 DEHunter color change after 3,500 MJ/m2
<br />EMMAQUA exposure (UV).
<br />2. Cleanability - MIL -PRF -85285D Section 4.6.13.
<br />a. No less than 95% cleaning efficiency.
<br />3. Graffiti Resistance - acrylic spray paint, epoxy spray paint, Markette marker, ball point ink,
<br />crayon, lipstick applied with 7 day cure.
<br />a. Complete removal.
<br />4. Abrasion — ASMT D 4060 (CS -17 Wheel, 1,000g Load).
<br />a. No more than 110mg loss after 1,000 cycles.
<br />PART 3 EXECUTION
<br />3.01 PREPARATION OF SURFACE
<br />A. Interior Wet Surface: The entire wet interior surface of the tank shall be cleaned of all paint,
<br />grease, oil, rust, mill scale, and other foreign or loose material. Cleaning shall be done in
<br />accordance with the Society for Protective Coatings Specification SSPC-SP-10, Near -White Blast
<br />Cleaning with a minimum angular anchor profile of 2.0 mils. Before any primer or paint is applied,
<br />metal surface shall be completely dry, dust free, inspected and approved by the Resident Project
<br />Representative. All structural repairs must be completed prior to final surface preparation
<br />procedures.
<br />B. Exterior Surface: The entire exterior surfaces of the tank shall be cleaned of all paint, grease, oil,
<br />rust, mill scale, and other foreign or loose materials before any primer or coating is applied.
<br />Cleaning shall be done in accordance with the Society for Protective Coatings Specification SSPC-
<br />SP-6, Commercial Blast Cleaning with a minimum angular anchor profile of 2.0 mils. Before any
<br />primer or coating is applied, metal surfaces shall be completely dry, dust free, inspected, and
<br />approved by the Resident Project Representative. All structural repairs must be completed prior to
<br />final surface preparation. Full negative air containment will be required per Article 3.02.
<br />C. Dry Interior Surface: The interior dry surfaces that are subjected to condensation of the tank shall
<br />be cleaned of all paint, grease, oil, rust, mill scale, and other foreign or loose materials before any
<br />primer or coating is applied. These areas include the drywell tube, the bowl, the top 2 feet of the
<br />fluted support column, the top side of the condensate ceiling, the water piping in the tank and in
<br />the valve pit, and any random coating failures as well as areas of structural modifications. For
<br />bidding purposes, it is estimated that there are approximately 7,500 square feet of surface that will
<br />require surface preparation and painting. Cleaning shall be done in accordance with the Society
<br />for Protective Coatings Specification SSPC-SP-6, Commercial Blast Cleaning with a minimum
<br />angular anchor profile of 2.0 mils. Interior dry surfaces of the tank blasted to a SSPC-SP-6,
<br />Commercial Blast Cleaning shall be feathered into the existing paint system according to SSPC-SP-
<br />3-82 Power Tool Cleaning. Before any primer or coating is applied, metal surfaces shall be
<br />completely dry, dust free, inspected, and approved by the Resident Project Representative. All
<br />structural repairs must be completed prior to final surface preparation.
<br />3.02 EXTERIOR SANDBLAST CONTAINMENT
<br />A. The Contractor shall be fully responsible to provide full containment as required of the exterior
<br />tank abrasive blasting operation, including top bonnet or cover to prevent the drift of spent
<br />abrasive and existing exterior paint removed onto adjacent property, streets, or structures.
