AGENDA ITEM 4A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Public Safety Director John Swenson <br />MEETING DATE: October 26, 2015 <br />TOPIC: Approval Resolution 15-124 Accepting Traffic Safety Grant — <br />2016 Renewal <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department is requesting Council approval to renew grant <br />funding from the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety for 2016. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On January 26, 2015 Council approved Resolution 15-11 accepting a Traffic Safety Grant from <br />the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety. This grant is renewable for up to four years. <br />The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety is requiring an updated Resolution for each annual <br />renewal. <br />The primary goal of this grant program is to enhance safety on community roads and freeways <br />through community outreach and traffic safety education focused on prevention (forums at <br />local businesses, schools, and social media), analysis of traffic and crash data for targeted <br />intervention strategies, and enforcement of traffic offenses. <br />The Grant will reimburse the City for expenses related to salary and benefits for one officer <br />($105,300), court related overtime (up to $25,000) and attendance at the TZD Annual <br />Conference (up to $1,500). <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of Resolution 15-124 renewing the traffic safety grant from the <br />Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety for 2016. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Resolution 15-124 <br />
