Active recreational facilities in community parks shall be ballfields, tennis courts, <br />playground equipment, ice skating, etc. <br />• COMMUNITY PLAYPIELDS <br />STANDARDS: <br />Areas designed for intense active recreational activities shall be designated community <br />playfields. <br />2. Community playfields shall be 25 or more acres and serve the multi -functional active <br />recreation needs of the overall City. <br />POLICIES: <br />1. Community playfields shall be limited to one or possibly two in the City. <br />2. The active recreation facilities provided in a community playfield shall include but not <br />be limited to athletic fields, swimming pools, ball courts, tennis courts, playground <br />equipment, ice skating, etc. <br />3. Community playfields may be located in proximity to other public facilities and sited <br />on a parcel suited for intense recreational activities compatible with other surrounding <br />land uses. <br />4. Design of a community playfield shall consider vehicular and pedestrian traffic. <br />• NEIGHBORHOOD PLAYGROUNDS <br />STANDARDS: <br />Areas designed for active recreational activities shall be designated as neighborhood <br />playgrounds. <br />2. Neighborhood playgrounds shall be 5 to 10 areas in size and serve the recreation needs <br />of residents primarily living within a half -mile radius. Neighborhood playgrounds <br />have a secondary service area beyond the half -mile radius. This secondary service <br />area will vary from park to park depending upon physical barriers such as highways, <br />lames, wetlands, topography, etc. <br />3. Neighborhood playgrounds shall serve approximately 75 to 120 homes and a total <br />population range of 230 to 350 persons. <br />4. Design and location of neighborhood playgrounds shall consider both vehicular and <br />pedestrian access. <br />POLICIES: <br />1.
