CITY OF LAKE ELMO <br />1fi LW2kkT&�,, • <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A REQUEST BY THE MINNEAPOLIS ROWING <br />CLUB TO HOST THE 110th NORTH WESTERN INTERNATIONAL ROWING <br />ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA ON LAKE ELMO ON AUGUST 3 <br />AND 4,2013. <br />WHEREAS, the Minneapolis ► Club is seeking support from the City of Lake <br />Elmo to host the I I Oth Annual Northwestern International Rowing Association (NWIRA) <br />Championship Regatta on Lake Elmo from August 3 through August 4, 2013 - and <br />WHEREAS, Lake Elmo's namesake lake has been chosen as the site for the two- <br />day championship rowing competition; <br />WHEREAS, Lake Elmo fully supports the efforts of the Minneapolis Rowing Club <br />and welcomes the opportunity to be a host city to this international event for the third time <br />in its history. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, based on the testimony elicited and information received, the <br />City Council makes the following: <br />I. That the Minneapolis Rowing Club will need to obtain a Water Surface Use Permit from <br />the Washington County Sheriffs Office in order to conduct a Regatta on the waters of <br />Lake Elmo. <br />2. That the application for water surface use will include the following components: <br />a. The Minneapolis Rowing Club will receive the sanctioning of the US Rowing <br />Association, the sport's national governing body to host the regatta, and will need to <br />demonstrate adequate insurance to cover the standard liability issues as part of the <br />permit request, <br />3. During the rowing competition on Lake Elmo, the Minneapolis Rowing Club has <br />requested that residential boat traffic follow the No Wake rule. The dates and times are as <br />follows: August 2 from 7 AM to 7 PM for event set up, and August 3-4 from 7 AM to 7 <br />PM. <br />4. The City Council defers to the Washington County Sheriff for the placement of any and <br />all buoys, floating starting platforms, and pontoon boats in the water as part of approval <br />of the Water Surface Use Permit. <br />5.
