STAFF REPORT
DATE: August 14, 2025
WORKSHOP
TO: Mayor and Councilmembers
FROM: Nicole Miller, City Administrator
AGENDA ITEM: City Center Wall Art
CORE STRATEGIES:
☒ Vibrant, inclusive, connected community ☐ Efficient, reliable, innovative services
☐ Responsive, transparent, adaptive governance ☐ Balanced Finances now and future
☐ Managed Growth ☐ Resilient Infrastructure
BACKGROUND:
The City Center project was completed in 2023. City hall staff moved into the building July 7,
2023 and fire department staff moved in on July 14, 2023. Currently we do not have a plan in
place for adding art to the interior walls on the City Hall side. The fire department recently
completed a historical display project in their portion of the building, which was funded through
donations and the fire department equipment and project fund.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Would the City Council be interested in moving forward with a plan for wall art in the City
Center?
Would the City Council be interested in starting a community art program to display local art on
the second floor of the City Center?
DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
Staff have worked with an Interior Designer with Leo A Daly as well as a Special Projects
Manager with the Art Resources Gallery to come up with wall locations and wall art options.
The ideas presented are to help with the conversation, however we can incorporate other ideas
from the Council as well.
This conversation focuses on the common areas on the first floor including council chambers,
community room, service counter and small conference room (Lake Jane). On the second floor
the areas we focused on are the lobby mezzanine, wall near service counter and small conference
room (Lake DeMontreville). The City Center was designed with lighting to display wall art in
the lobby mezzanine area.
