STAFF REPORT
DATE: June 2nd 2026
REGULAR
TO: Mayor and Councilmembers
FROM: Adam Swanepoel – Assistant Public Works Director
AGENDA ITEM: Water Transfer Station Repairs
CORE STRATEGIES:
☐ Vibrant, inclusive, connected community
☒ Responsive, transparent, adaptive governance☒
☐ Managed Growth
☐ Efficient, reliable, innovative services
☐ Balanced Finances now and future
☒ Resilient Infrastructure
BACKGROUND:
The Water Transfer Station, also referred to as the Booster Station, is an important piece of city infrastructure
that transfers water daily from the Ideal Water Tower to the Inwood Tower. Without this booster station, little
or no water would be available to residents living south of the station’s location.
The booster station contains two large pumps, each capable of transferring an average of 2,500 gallons per
minute (GPM). During the week of May 18, one of these pumps failed and became inoperable. After the pump
was removed and inspected, it was determined that the internal components had been severely damaged
causing the pump to be taken out of service. At the current time we are operating off one pump.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should the City proceed with making the repairs on the booster pump?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
The booster station serves as a major component of the City’s potable water distribution system and is
in need of repair. Keys well drilling removed the parts and recommended moving to a stainless steel
components. Total Mechanical is a supplier and installer of these types of components and provided us
with the following options.
Option 1- Order a new rotating assembly with stainless steel guts. The lead time would be 12
weeks. Total Time and Material Not To Exceed Cost $52,371.
Option 2- Order and exact bronze fitted rotating assembly. Like for like replacement. The lead
time would be 1 to 2 weeks. Total Time and Material Not To Exceed Cost $19,650.
