Clean Water <br />In Minnesota, public water supply systems are regularly tested <br />by the Minnesota Department of Health for various <br />contaminants. The water from all three Lake Elmo wells is <br />tested daily for various chemicals and at longer intervals for <br />others, to ensure it meets health standards. Ensuring clean <br />water for residents has always been a top priority, and Lake <br />Elmo provides safe and reliable drinking water that complies <br />with federal and state water quality standards. <br />The Lake Elmo Public Works team has worked to reduce and <br />effectively remove pollutants from our drinking water and, as <br />part of that plan, the installation of the new water treatment <br />system at Well 2 is now complete and operational. <br />More information on water quality in Lake Elmo can be found <br />at www.LakeElmo.gov <br />Protect our Lakes and Streams <br />For more information visit Lakeelmo.gov/finance <br />Our lakes and streams are affected by rain <br />and snowmelt that wash off streets, lawns, <br />and rooftops. This runoff can carry dirt, <br />fertilizer, oil, trash, and salt directly into the <br />water. <br />Residents can reduce this pollution in <br />several important ways. <br />Keep water cleaner and reduce flooding <br />by using things like rain barrels and <br />gardens, trees, permeable pavement, <br />and green spaces <br />Avoid sending grass cuttings and leaves <br />into the street. <br />Pick up pet waste <br />Prevent leaves from vehicles <br />Minimize use of toxic lawn care products <br />Ways the City helps reduce pollution: <br />Street sweeping keeps leaves and dirt from <br />entering our water system <br />Using smart salting methods for winter street <br />maintenance <br />Upgrade and maintain City systems to trap <br />pollutants before they flow into lakes and <br />streams <br />The results for residents include: <br />Cleaner water for swimming, fishing, and <br />boating <br />Less flooding after heavy rain and snow melt <br />Healthier neighborhoods and wildlife <br />Protected property values <br />A stronger, more resilient community
