MINUTES OF THE IAKE ELMO VILLAGE COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 18, 1972 <br />Meeting called to order at 723OPM by Mayor Brookman. <br />Present:Brookman$Shervheim, Friedrioh,Watson,Abercrombie,Park & ]Vfehsikomer. <br />Also present:Counsel Raleigh -Engineer Bonestroo. <br />kbsent:None. <br />Mayor requested that the minutes of the January 4$.1972 meeting be changed <br />to show that the Planning Commsision should appoint two members to the <br />committees to consider the future park and sewer programs. Each service <br />group should be entitled to one member, on each committee. <br />Motion by C..Shervheim 2nd by C.Watson that the minutes be approved as <br />corrected. Carried 5-0. <br />Motion by C.Shervheim 2nd by C.Abercrombie that the Oakdale Athletic Assoc. <br />be given permission to sell beer at their recreation nights to be held at <br />the Lake Elmo VFW on January 29,A.pril 11 and October 21,1972. Carried 5-0.. <br />Discussion regarding selection of an official publication for the Village.. <br />Clerk reported that the Stillwater Gazette had 68 daily and 265 weekly <br />subscribers in bake Elmo. Washington County Review has a circulation of <br />504 of which 502 are paid. Lake Elmo customer breakdown was questionable <br />since they can only go by make Elmo Zip; Code which includes area outside <br />the Village. Estimate is about 50%. Mr. John Harms.= of the Washington <br />Cou#ty Bulletin presented his pitch in behalf of his paper. Decision of <br />which paper will be the official paper tabled until next meeting. <br />The residents of Olson Lake Road were enmass for the meeting and selected <br />their three youthful girls Gail Swanlund$Karen Broggen and Lee Ann Wethe <br />as their spokesmen. Letter from the County Surveyor was read in which he <br />recommended that the Council refuse to permit retention of the Olson Lake <br />rather than Ideal name.. Comments from the floor were allowed by the Mayor. <br />Ifter reviewing all the points against the change and the reasons for re- <br />taining -the old name the Council on a motion by C.Abercrombie with a 2nd <br />by C.Shervheim agreed to the name of Olson Lake Trail for that portion of <br />the road from Hidden Bay. Road to County Hwy 68. Motion.carried 5- 0. <br />LeRoy Rossow represented the citizens of Tab"lyn Park regarding the naming <br />of Southhill Blvd. Prev&ously the Council had gone along with the name <br />Southhill Trail rather than the proposed name of 29th St. and Ironwood Ave, <br />for this 2 block road. The county surveyor asked that the Council reconsider <br />and if they had to change would they accept the name of Ironwood Trail. <br />Mr, Rossow advised that they preferred the Southhill Trail name but would <br />agree to the: Ironwood Trail.. He had. contacted and represented all the af- <br />fected citizens. Motion by C.Shervheim 2nd by C.Watson that the clerk be <br />advised to xxxi relay to the county surveyor that the Council. had approved <br />the name Ironwood Trail. Carried 5--0. <br />Mr. Richard Johnson Chairman of the solid waste disposal study committee <br />reviewed the results of the original study and asked the Council to take <br />setion. Clerk instructed to distribute copies of the report to the Council <br />,nembers for study with a decision to be made at the Feb.1$1972 meeting. <br />Clerk also requested to come up with some sort of a license for haulers <br />to be reviewed at this same meeting, <br />Motion by C.Watson 2nd by C.Abercrombie that Clerk write a letter to the <br />County Commissioners advising them that Richard E. Johnson was appearing <br />before them regarding the solid waste disposal site In the Village of Lake <br />^+.Imo as a delegate of the Village. Complaints regarding open vehicles$ <br />poor polieing,improper use etc. would be presented. Motion carried 5-Oo <br />
