T <br />R-81-30 <br />RESOLUTION <br />CITY OF LAKE <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY,ELMO MINNESOTA <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE SELECTION OF <br />THE LAKE ELMO REGIONAL PARK RESERVE AS <br />A POSSIBLE SOLID WASTE LANDFILL SITE. <br />.WHEREAS, the Lake Elmo Regional Park Reserve <br />was established to maintain the unique and precious <br />natural resources in and around Eagle Point Lake; and, <br />WHEREAS, everyone who sold land for or is adjacent <br />to the Regional Park Reserve was assured that such land <br />was to be used for a Park Reserve; and, <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Comprehensive Plan provides <br />for passive recreation and nature preserve in the Regional <br />Park; and, <br />WHEREAS, any landfill will take land out of Park <br />Reserve, uproot wildlife and destroy natural vegative and <br />wildlife habitat, and create an environment in which the <br />very flora and fauna you are trying to preserve will be <br />forced out and destroyed; and, <br />WHEREAS, there is ample evidence- in Lake Elmo alone - <br />that landfills contribute to the degradation of our land, <br />air and water resources; and, <br />WHEREAS, there are not adequate collector streets <br />for a Regional Park Reserve, let alone a regional landfill; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, landfills do not solve the solid waste <br />problems; but merely transfer the responsibility for man- <br />aging these wastes to future generations. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council <br />of the City of Lake Elmo, <br />THAT, the City of Lake Elmo strenuously objects <br />to the siting of any landfill in or near the Lake Elmo <br />Regional Park Reserve, and, <br />THAT, the City of"Lake Elmo objects to the devel- <br />opment of any new landfills; and supports efforts to <br />recover , recycle and permanently dispose of Solid Wastes. <br />
