CITY COUNCIL MEETING, FEBRUARY 23, 1983
3, STREET REBABILITATION HEARING - CONTINUED:
--Richard Quinn what maintenance is presently being done on
these streets?
Larry Bohrer - City crew can handle two tvpes of street maintenance
jobs - 1, Hole filling with hot tar mixture - have to use a
maintenance truck to pack it down as the City has no roller or
other equipment to cut out bad areas and replace same with new
pavement; and 2, the seal coating program. Seal coating is
only effective to a point - once "alligatoring" of the pavement
begins seal coating will not hold the pieces together. Because
of the condition o.f. these streets, pot hole filling is the only
maintenance proposed. Believe these streets receive the same
amount of attention as any other streets in the City.
--Arlyn Christ - appears to be an overwhelming attitude againt the
proposed rehabilitation - would like to have the City prove that
seal coating will not work, Believes that filling the cracks .in
the pavement will solve the problems. Should wait before ordering
this extensive a project.
--George Pletsch - suggested- contracting out the patching work the
City crew cannot do this would better use citizen tax dollars.
--Walt John - do not believe an overlay would do any good.
--Carl Bagley, Jamaca Ct, given the current pollution problems
caused by the landfill feel dollars would be better spent
toward resolving this problem rather than blacktopping the streets.
Morgan took a poll of the residents:
18 residents from Tablyn Park - none were in favor of the project,
3 residents from Kendridge - none were in favor - petition represented
the majority of this developments residents,
9 residents from Bordner Gardner Farmettes - none were in favor of
the project,
1 resident from Fredrich Heights - opposed the project.
Morgan closed the hearing at 7:55 p.m. Residents were notified that
this will be on the March 1, 1983 Council Agenda.
--Dunn - would like to see a petition from the other three areas,
will not support a project or assessment that is opposed by the
affected property owners.
--Morgan should consider repair of the worst areas and see if'
they can be seal coated, rather than repair the good sections
along with the deteriorated ones,
Mazzara - drove through these areas -feels the majority of :these
streets are in good shape. From what was seen, not sure the
benefits are there.
There being no further discussion Morgan entertained a motion to
adjourn the meeting,
M/S/P Dunn/Mazzara to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
RESOLUTIONS: 83-24 - Ag Preserves
