LAKE ELMO CITY COUNCIL MINUTES SEPTEMBER 5, 1989 PAGE 11
E. Cozy Cove Motel Update
Administrator Morrison reported that Elmer Haase, owner of the Cozy Cove
Motel, recently had a heart attack and has been unable to take care of
things. His son, Daryl contacted Jim McNamara and requested saving the
most easterly building on theur site plus the garage. Haase was told this
would be inappropriate because of the number of building violations
involved. The Order that the Council gave was to repair or raze and this
process continues on.
According to Fire Chief Pott, the 10 days will expire September 8, 1989
because the burn for one building took two days, August 26th and 27th and
the second building still has to be burned. If the work is not done by
September 8th, the City will have to hire it done or go out and do it and
these clean up fees can be certified on his taxes. Mr. Hasse's son has
advised he contacted somebody to come out and give him a bid for the
cleanup, but did not know when this would be done.
The Council asked the staff to stay on top of the situation.
9. OTHER:
A. Charitable Gambling Request from Fourth District VFW
The 4th District Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has made
application for "Exemption from Charitable Gambling License" for a one -day
fundraiser to be held at the local VFW the end of September or early part
of October. The Council had no problem with this request.
B. BUDGET
The Council cancelled the regularly scheduled September 19th Council
meeting and set Budget Hearing discussion as an agenda item for 9:00 p.m.
September 26th Council Meeting and this item will continue on to the
October 3rd meeting. Finance Director Banister stated she wasn't sure if
a Budget Hearing could be held on an unscheduled Council meeting (rather
than the first & third Tuesday of the month.) The Council added, on Page
9, $5,000 for the Surface Water Management Plan covering Downs Lake.
M/S/P Moe/Graves - to adjourn the Council Meeting at 11:25 p.m. (Motion
carried 5-0).
