We question whether there <br />are alternatives to construct it on the east side of the house. <br />This is an example of why the Department has generally taken a <br />negative position on decks. Decks seem to eventually be converted <br />into living space over time. <br />This proposal represents an expansion of the structure towards the <br />lake which increases its substandard dimensions. Even though it <br />will be two feet less than the existing deck, the proposed <br />expansion will include a roof and walls. The burden of proof of <br />hardship rests with the applicant, which is difficult to <br />demonstrate for a porch, since there is already reasonable use of <br />the property. <br />Please forward a copy of the final local decision within 10 days of <br />that decision.
